'Forgotten' heads to San Sebastian sidebar

August 20, 2008 The world premiere of Heddy Honigmann's "El Olvido" (The Forgotten) will open the Horizontes section at the 56th San Sebastian International Film Festival, in what is shaping up as a strong lineup of 14 films showcasing this year's crop of Latin American filmmaking. Along with Honigmann's look at Peru, Mexico's Enrique Rivero will vie for the 35,000 euro ($51,000) Horizontes prize with his "Parque Via," winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno last week, as will Christian Poveda's premiere of "La Vida Loca." Horizons, which features films not released in Spain before the festival, weaves together movies from veteran directors including Pablo Trapero's "Leonera" and Alberto Cortes' "Heart of Time" with hot-ticket newcomers such as Alex Rivera with his futuristic "Sleep Dealer" -- which took the Waldo Salt award for screenwriting at Sundance this year -- or Federico Veiroj's feature debut, "Acne," which has screened at about 60 festivals.
