Foreigners sweep Oscar acting nods

February 25, 2008 The victories by Daniel Day-Lewis and Tilda Swinton of England, Marion Cotillard of France and Javier Bardem of Spain on Sunday night marked just the second foreign acting sweep in the history of the Oscars. The only other time Americans were blanked in the four categories came during the 1965 ceremony, when British natives Rex Harrison (best actor, "My Fair Lady"), Julie Andrews (best actress, "Mary Poppins") and Peter Ustinov (best supporting actor, "Topkapi") and Russian Lila Kedrova (best supporting actress, "Zorba the Greek") took home the acting trophies. Supporting actor Oscars were not handed out until 1937, eight years after the first Academy Awards ceremony.
